Building a Path to Affordable Homeownership

Owning a safe, stable home can provide a strong foundation for the future. Habitat for Humanity of Walton County partners with local families to help make affordable homeownership possible. With the support of volunteers, donors, and community partners, we build affordable homes throughout Walton County and partner with qualified applicants who are ready to take the steps toward becoming homeowners.

Habitat homes are not given away. Partner families are fully invested in the process. They complete sweat equity hours helping build Habitat homes, participate in homeowner education classes and workshops, and purchase their home through an affordable mortgage.

Do I Qualify for Habitat Homeownership?

Habitat for Humanity considers three primary qualifications when selecting future homeowners. Applicants must demonstrate an ability to pay an affordable mortgage, a need for housing, and a willingness to partner with Habitat.

Ability to Pay

Applicants must demonstrate the ability to repay an affordable mortgage and meet the program's income, debt-to-income, credit, and other financial requirements.

Need for Housing

Applicants must demonstrate a need for safe, stable, and affordable housing. This may include overcrowding, substandard housing conditions, living with family or friends, receiving housing assistance, or difficulty maintaining affordable housing.

Willingness to Partner

Habitat homeowners actively participate in the program by completing 250 required sweat equity hours and participating a homeowner education class.
